Empty the sleeping space completely
Remove the bedding, mattress and everything stored inside the bed. Photograph the structure underneath before taking out slats or support pieces. Some slatted bases form a separate unit; others consist of loose slats or linked rows. Mark the head end, foot end and any different support zones your model has. Do not casually change adjustments just to make the parts pack more tightly.
Find the correct instructions. Beds with powered adjustments or spring-assisted storage mechanisms need model-specific procedures; do not improvise around tensioned mechanisms. If the construction remains unclear, get appropriate help before releasing a structural component.
Identify rails and centre supports
Mark left and right as seen from the foot of the bed. Record that viewpoint in an overall photograph. Pay particular attention to the centre support connection and the position of its feet. Small differences in foot adjustment can matter during rebuilding. Record their previous setting, while recognising that the new floor may require a different adjustment.
Have another person support a component while its connection is released according to the instructions. Put screws and washers straight into labelled bags. Do not drag rails over projecting threaded bolts if this could damage the finish or holes. Protect the edges of long parts, and do not use them as supports underneath heavy cartons.
Plan the arrival sequence
Put all bed components in the intended bedroom while keeping the assembly area clear. Keep the fitting bags and necessary tools there too. Check joints for damage and wait until all parts are accounted for before starting. A clear, level working space makes it easier to see whether the frame is aligned correctly.
Install supports, the slatted base and any required restraints as instructed before adding the mattress. Then check that every specified connection is complete. A fitting left over is a reason to check the instructions, rather than automatically treating it as a spare. Remove the packaging from the walking route before making up the bed.
