Finish one room at a time

Start furthest from the exit and work towards it. Open every remaining cupboard and drawer instead of checking only visible surfaces. Inspect windowsills, door hooks and spaces hidden behind open doors. Carry a small bag for anything you find so each forgotten object does not interrupt the whole process. Mark a room as checked only after you have completed the full inspection.

Check connections and high places

Chargers, extension leads and short connection cables are easily overlooked because their devices have already been packed. Examine accessible sockets and shelves deliberately. Use suitable safe access equipment for high areas, not an improvised ladder of moving boxes. Do not remove fixed installations on impulse. If an item belongs to the property or its status is uncertain, record the question and raise it with the agreed contact.

Include secondary spaces

Put the cellar, storage cupboard, balcony and any assigned storage areas explicitly on the list. Remember borrowed handling equipment and packaging left outside the flat. Distinguish belongings to move, items agreed to remain and waste awaiting disposal. Something intentionally staying behind is not automatically an unfinished task. Clear earlier agreement avoids a debate about it while the loaded vehicle is waiting to leave.

Finish with your actual handover arrangements

Check that agreed completion tasks are done and the required keys are ready. Follow the specific arrangements for handover and access; a generic online list cannot replace them. If useful, take straightforward overview photographs without people or confidential documents in the frame. Keep recovered small items in your personal bag. Lock up only after this check, with the necessary key still accessible rather than buried in the load.
