Check each closure individually
Wipe residue from bottles and caps so fresh leaks are easier to spot. Check that screw caps engage correctly and flip tops close fully. Do not wedge a damaged bottle tightly between other items. Choose a suitable separate arrangement for packaging you do not trust.
Pump bottles sometimes have a travel lock. Use it according to the intended instructions and check that the pump is actually blocked. Do not force a pump head down if doing so releases product. Keep removable small parts with their container, preferably inside the same small outer package.
Contain possible leaks locally
Stand liquids upright in an appropriate wipe-clean inner container or additional leak-resistant enclosure. A cardboard box alone will not reliably contain spilled product. Separate toiletries from textiles, documents and food rather than filling spare gaps indiscriminately.
Do not leave containers free to knock against one another. Small dividers or suitable compartments can support them without putting pressure on caps. Follow label instructions for sprays and products with particular storage requirements. Do not leave them unnecessarily in a hot vehicle.
Set aside everyday supplies
A toothbrush, toothpaste and the daily care products you need belong in a separate accessible bag. You can then leave the full bathroom box closed on your first evening. Include only the quantities and products you will actually need soon so this bag stays manageable.
At the destination, inspect the inner packaging before setting it on delicate furniture. Clean spilled residue according to the product instructions and check neighbouring containers. Then store products in suitable places, beyond children's reach where their labels require it.
